Look after your skin
Busy life got you neglecting your skin? You can still make time to look after yourself (your skin is the largest organ of your body after all!) by focusing on the basics. Good skincare combined with a healthy lifestyle can help prevent a variety of problems and delay natural ageing.
Get started today with five of our top tips.
1. Drink water
Water helps our skin to maintain moisture which increases your elasticity. The more hydrated you stay the fewer wrinkles and fine lines you’ll see. It can also help flush toxins from the skin making for a clearer complexion.
2. Protect yourself from the sun
One of the most important ways to take care of your skin is to protect it from the damaging effects of the sun. As well as increasing the risk of skin cancer, a lifetime of sun exposure can cause wrinkles, sun damage and other skin problems. Use sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15 (even in the winter months).
3. Install a water softener
Research has proven a link between hard water and eczema so if you are suffering from the condition then a water softener might be the answer.
Water softeners remove minerals such as magnesium and calcium from your water, leaving you with soft water which is kinder to your skin.
Another benefit is that you will use less soap (which can dry your skin out) and products produce more lather with soft water meaning that you need less to get squeaky clean.
4. Eat a healthy diet
A healthy diet has a range of benefits, helping to keep your whole body in fine working order and supplying all the nutrients you need for a happy active life.
A healthy diet can help you look and feel your best. Eat plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains and healthy proteins.
Research shows that a diet rich in nutritious oils (avocado, nuts, olive oil etc) and low in unhealthy fats, processed foods and refined carbohydrates promotes younger looking skin.
5. Get enough sleep
Sleep is one of your best friends. When you are fast asleep your body goes into repair mode and regenerates blood, muscles and skin. So to keep your skin looking its best make sure you aim for the recommended eight hours a night.
